Listed below are steps and tools to consider when transitioning to the county Leadership Advisory Board.

Step
Task
1
County Extension Agent has participated in a Centra on "Leadership Advisory Boards: More than a Name Change" or has demonstrated a strong understanding of the LAB Concept.
2
County Extension Agent reviewed the LAB Membership example (10-20 citizens and that are NOT necessarily on other county Extension committees).
3
County Extension Agent reviewed the Leadership Advisory Board Position Description (Extension Publication D-1452).
4
County Extension Agent needs to conference with all County Extension Agents in the county to help develop recommendations for potential LAB membership from the staff.
The "LAB Candidate Worksheet" may help when the staff is deciding on members.
5
County Extension Agent should have a plan developed to explain to the current Executive Board why there has been a shift to the Leadership Advisory Board. This could include a presentation to the group or a written letter explaining the change.
6
County Extension Agent reviews transition plan and potential membership with District Extension Administrator. This includes any demographic information related to potential members to ensure entire county is represented.
7
Send letter to members announcing first meeting and expectations of members.
The example letter may help. Microsoft Word or PDF

Also, you may want to include the "LAB Position Description."
8
Hold first meeting. Some counties have decided to not hold officer elections at the first meeting. Instead, they have decided to simply orient the LAB to the County Extension Program. The following tools could be used to orient the LAB members.
History of Cooperative Extension - Text Summary, PPT, PPT with Notes
Orienting the Leadership Advisory Board - PPT, PPT with Notes
9
Summarize the meeting and send out minutes to the committee with next assignments. This could possibly include officer election tasks.
Use the "Leadership Advisory Board Responsibility Worksheet" as a guide for progress.

Other Tools:
Mock Spring Agenda
Mock Fall Agenda
